Times from Street Weekend at Melbourne Raceway, Sat 15th June 2024

After a rained out Friday at Santa Pod the weather played ball for MELBOURNE SATURDAY. Runs got underway at 9.30am with 174 cars making it to the final venue, a large number arriving on Friday to enjoy a warm sunny evening mingling with the welcoming regulars enjoying the band, bar and catering facilities.
Though many drivers opted for just one run others put down several runs to get the best time possible.
It certainly worked for Michael Castle an initial 6.40sec run then saw Michael, with previous experience at MELBOURNE, post a new personal best run, 5.85sec 122mph second run to claim the number one spot and the only run in the 5s in his MK5 Cortina.
Rob Carter was another. Of his 3 runs in the VW Passat his 6.26sec at 122mph got him the number 2 spot.
Wayne Gill, XHYPE VW Golf R was only 0.11sec behind Rob grabbing 3rd with 6.37sec at 114mph.
Fourth position went to Simon Paul pedalling the Nissan GTR to a best 6.41sec with the highest speed of 124mph.
Light rain came as the last pair of STREETWEEKENDERS ran down the strip at 12 o’clock. When racing resumed after the rain enforced lunch break a few stragglers appeared to put in their runs one of whom was last years overall winner Andy Bond who had to change a rocker arm on the Chevy 210 but still managing a time good enough for 5th spot on 6.61sec at 113mph.
Altogether a fantastic days racing enjoyed by a large crowd.
Thanks must go to all the drivers and crews plus the hard working MELBOURNE RACEWAY crew for putting on a brilliant event in association with SANTA POD RACEWAY,  can next years event get any better?
