MID SUMMER NATIONALS

Northern championship drag racing returns to the ‘Vale of Speed’ at Yorkshire’s Melbourne Raceway’s ‘Mid Summer Nationals Sat/Sun August 2nd/3rd.

In addition to a full supporting cast of extremely fast competition cars and motorcycles, rapid street cars and even faster bikes, as well as the sports junior classes, will be the much talked about and photographed steam rocket bike ‘Force of Nature’ of speed engineer Graham Sykes. So far this year, the world’s fastest accelerating motorcycle has touched speeds of 180 mph over the eighth of a mile strip in 3.2 seconds. Blink and you’ll miss it!

The weekend also plays host to the 5th round of the track’s inhouse Melbourne ‘Cup’ Championship along with the ever popular No Mercey Motorcycle and Scooter series. Peter Slater is the current track record holder at 5.60s on his turbo Suzuki Hayabusa but there’s a few now starting to knock on the door loudly including rival Phil ‘Woody’ Wood.

The Nostalgia Pro Stocker Bikes with their throwback 1980s engine configurations and body styles will be back to run the penultimate round of this highly competitive series. New boy Steve Howe has jumped into the lead after his second straight win on his GS1000 Suzuki. He’s certainly looks like the man to beat in this class of motorcycle drag racing you surely won’t want to miss!

For the car mad enthusiast’s, you can catch (if you can) the Quick 8 Pro Competition dragsters, funny cars and doorslammers of our sport. Could the track record of 5.06s set by Mark Flavell’s Mustang Cobra bodied Funny Car last year get taken down even lower! Find out at Melbourne Raceway’s Mid Summer Nationals’

American Super Stock gets another outing in this the penultimate round of the tracks exclusive muscle car championship. Last time out five time champion Lee Chiles took his classic Plymouth Valiant Super Stock to another hard-fought win, but will it happen here again! Or will another series driver have an eye on the trophy!

Backing the stockers up for variety will be the racers from the ever popular National Street Car Challenge celebrating a 30th anniversary season. Where else will you find a 150 mph plus Chevy powered Ford Cortina Estate or a 1957 Morris Minor that grandma used to drive cover the eighth of a mile in 7 seconds!
Find this out and more at the Mid Summer Nationals.
