Times for The Speed Show, 22nd and 23rd Feb 2025
“SPEEDSHOW CROWDS ENJOY 100 METRE DRAG STRIP ACTION ”
The 100 metre 2 lane dash enjoyed some close competition with, on Saturday. 12 cars, 29 bikes including 5 scooters, 5 juniors and a classic Go Kart.
Topping the cars was Tim Webster in the Porsche Taycan Electric with 4.09sec at 94mph giving him an entry into “Streetweekend ’25”, Ian Walley in the V8 turbo Mk 2 Cortina laid down a smokey 4.42sec at 92mph for 2nd with in 3rd Nick East, Porsche 991 turbo on 4.73sec at 82mph.
Chris Hodgson topped the bike class a 4.05sec at 99mph on his turbo Hayabusa. Jamie Brookes GSX1400 turbo got some bike problems sorted to post 4.12sec at 99mph for 2nd spot with Ashley Hodgson, on a new for this season GSXR1000, just 2/100ths behind on 4.14sec at 96mph. Fastest scooter was Nigel Howard on his Greenlight Vespa, 5.42sec at 65mph.
Juniors saw Dexter Wilson No. 1 in his Junior dragster with a 5.72sec at 58mph. William Mountford struggled for consistency on his new Kawasaki but ended up 2nd on 5.86sec at 62mph. 3rd went to 2024 Junior champion Maisie Thornton, running a new 125cc 4 stroke engine in her bike, a best of 6.83sec at 47mph, the best of her 37 runs!!!!!
Sunday saw 14 cars, 8 bikes and 2 juniors.
In cars Andrew Crank topped the sheets with a 4.87sec at 78mph in his Turbo Corsa. Ian Walley grabbed 2nd spot again with 4.97sec at 78mph and Mick Bryant, Mitsubishi Evo 4, with 5.18sec at 73mph in 3rd. Simon Fogg got his ticket for “Streetweekend ’25”
Bikes saw Jamie Brookes improve on his Saturday time stopping the clock at 4.04sec at 110mph, the highest speed of the weekend. Ashley Hodgson grabbed 2nd, just 2/100ths slower than Saturday, with a 4.16sec at 95mph with Terry Mountford, Suzuki GSXR1000, on 4.21sec at 94mph. Nigel Howard again fastest scooter on 5.35sec at 69mph.
Juniors had William Mountford take top spot on 6.12sec at 63mph and Maisie Thornton improving on her Saturday time with 6.74sec at 47mph in 2nd.
The Steam Rocket bike stunned the huge crowds on both days. Head winds meant Graham Sykes was just shy of the record 3.284sec 185.5mph.
Saturdays run on the 1/8 mile was a stunner that left the crowd wondering what they had just seen, a 3.365sec at 184.395mph.
Sundays run saw Graham having to fight to stop the bike drifting to the right due to the wind but still managed a 3.391sec at 183.161mph.
